The purpose of the Complete Count Committee is to raise awareness about the importance of the 2010 decennial census, reach hard to count groups, and encourage participation in the Census in order to assure that each and every citizen of Guilford County is counted in the upcoming census. An accurate count of the population is critical in determining congressional representation. In addition, the federal government allocates more than $300 billion in funds annually to local governments, funding programs in education, housing, transportation, health care, and community development and more. Most funding is based solely on the population count obtained in the decennial census. If portions of Guilford County are undercounted, it has the potential to cost this county millions of dollars in lost revenue over the next 10 years.
The Guilford County Complete Count Committee is comprised of a team of community leaders, appointed for the purpose of developing and implementing a 2010 Census awareness campaign. Through the Complete Count Committee, the census has a greater chance to reach every county resident.
